Sara Fernandez is an avid lover of urban landscapes.  She received her bachelors degree in architecture from California and Copenhagen, Denmark.  It was in university, while studying in Copenhagen, that she took an urban sketching course and discovered a passion for sketching and painting city streets and buildings.  After university, Sara worked abroad as an architect in Singapore and Israel. She continued to travel, sketch, and paint for pleasure throughout Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

Sara was initially attracted to the medium of watercolour, as it lends itself well to painting urban scenes, and is easily portable for travel and painting on location. Watercolour is a wonderful medium that emits light and captures the mood, drama and atmosphere of cities.

As happens in life, Sara became a mother and devoted her time and energy into raising three wonderful kids.  Five years ago, Sara moved to Vancouver and began painting full time.  She now works as an architectural illustrator for architects throughout British Columbia.  Her passion still remains for painting on site around Vancouver.  Vancouver is a fabulous city to paint with the strong juxtaposition of urban and natural landscapes, with a variety of districts, amount of city life, and comfortable street scales and proportions.  Sara has been painting urban scenes around Vancouver for the past two years.
