Lamondance is a contemporary training and performance company for emerging professional dancers, established in 2009 by Lara Barclay and Monica Proença. Led by artistic director Davi Rodrigues, the program offers dancers the opportunity to immerse themselves in high levels of technical training, original choreography, and the chance to study with accomplished teachers in a professional environment.
Lamondance provide their dancers with the opportunity to explore dance and theatre arts in performances in their community and abroad. The company is also a forum for choreographers and teachers to develop, and present their own works. The mandate of the program is to provide dancers with the opportunity to learn dance techniques, individually or as a group, which will assist in developing a well-rounded dancer with self-confidence, discipline and focus. This promotes good work ethics and helps them in their quest to achieve higher standards, and better performance. Through the program, the dancers are taught to mentor their peers and lead by example, with the intention of not only creating model citizens, but model dancers.
Former students of Lamondance have gone on to work for international companies such as “São Paulo Cia de Dança” (Brazil), “Divinadança” (Brazil),“Nordhausen Ballet” (Germany), “Theater Osnabrück” (Germany), “Halle Opera House” (Germany), “Grazer Oper” (Austria), “Tanzkompanie der Oper Graz” (Germany),Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company, “Wen Wei Dance” (Canada), among others.
