Art has been a focal point in whole my life. Even as an infant I was very creative. Everything was an opportunity to create. Apparently food was my favorite medium. Today, mediums with texture are still my favorite. There is nothing like pouring emotions into art. Watching your piece take shape as you wade through it like a heavy storm, then seeing the colors burst with a final glaze. I used to feel quite apprehensive when showing anyone my work. After all, who wants to open a most vulnerable door for everyone to see and judge? While still feeling nervous, I can see now we are always learning, changing and growing. Art is part of that journey, and like life, it is not dependent on others approval. As it turns out, one gift of sharing my work has been feedback I've received. One comment which is close to my heart is that of a lady who suddenly lost her sister. She messaged me to say while clearing her sisters things she found a piece of my art her sister had purchased. She exclaimed “I brought it home with me; it calms me, and makes me happy when remembering me sister”. Another said “If I ever have to evacuate my house, I’m grabbing my dogs first and then this painting”.
I am a Vancouver Island based artist. I have spent most of my life on Salt Spring Island. British Columbia has amazing talent and I am thrilled to be able to have a small share in it.
