My work is now, and always has been, about chaos and order. For over 30 years, I have been exploring a personal visual language. I believe language is one way in which we attempt to impose order on the chaos that is our universe. I have utilized a variety of symbols of communication which include architectural symbols, representational text and numbers through to an arbitrarily abstract language which has emerged as I work. This current series uses Binary language and coding which are the languages of computers.
The content of my work is echoed in my process. I explore the synthesis of two divergent styles of painting – a spontaneous, intuitive expression and a precise placement of language and geometry.
The paintings are created by imposing language and geometry (order) onto an expressive organic ground (chaos) , creating a visual tension through the juxtaposition of these elements.
