Karissa received her training in classical ballet and other genres of dance from institutions such as The Banff Centre for the Arts, Arts Umbrella, The Impulstanz Workshops in Vienna, Austria, and Ballet BC’s mentor program.
As a freelance artist, Karissa has performed and collaborated in works for choreographers and companies; Amber Funk Barton, Alison Denham, EzDanza, JOEINK, LINK Dance, Mascall Dance, Movent, Out InnerSpace Dance Theatre, Raven Spirit Dance, Science Friction, Sylvain Emard Danse, The Vancouver Opera, and was a member of Wen Wei Dance for 9 years.
Performing works for these companies has taken her touring to China, Colombia, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, New York, Scotland, Singapore, Wales and throughout Canada.
She has also appeared in various commercials and print ads, most recently for yoga ads at Mountain Equipment Co-Op.
Karissa has taught ballet and contemporary for various institutions in B.C. and Quebec, and has created works for Arts Umbrella, Ballet BC mentor program, BC Buds Spring Arts Fair, Dancing on the edge, Dances for a small stage, Modus Operandi Training Program and Twelve Minutes Max.
