Holly Winters was born (and raised) in Liverpool, Nova Scotia in 1964. She studied fine art at Mount Allison University, Sackville New Brunswick and received her degree in 1987. Her major was in painting.
Following graduation, Holly moved to Toronto and lived there for three years exploring intuitive art. She decided to move to Vancouver in 1991 where she worked as a picture framer and continued her art.
Holly chose to exhibit her Butterflies and Black Cat paintings for Lab Art 2013. The Black Cat series stemmed from inspiration from the Steinlen poster of the same name and from photographic images of cats on Flickr.com. The Butterflies are also taken from the Internet and manipulated digitally before painting them in a minimal style.
