The Ponderosas take soul, pop, funk, reggae and R&B and blend it into a unique sound that is truly their own. The eight-piece band features the vocal harmonies of singer/songwriters Janette King and Kristie McCracken. The Ponderosas merge diverse cultural backgrounds, individual interests and different musical paths into a sound that is instantly recognizable amid the flurry of sonic flavours in today’s music.
While singing, Janette and Kristie play keyboards and guitar, and are joined by a rhythm section including Ian Cardona on drum kit, Chris Couto on congas/percussion/vocals, Dave Taylor on lead guitar, Jason Smith on bass. The band takes that powerful sound and then kicks it up a level with Kevin Tang on trombone and Lucas Teodoro da Silva on trumpet/vocals.
Ponderosas members regularly collaborate with a hugely diverse group of musicians includ- ing Richard Brown, Omar Khan, Natural Flavas, The Boom Booms, Kutapira, Tanga, Miami Device, Wachu, Rude City Riot and 11 Hour Orchestra. Members of the band have recorded on albums in genres as diverse as marching band music, salsa, jazz, ska and hip hop.
